Job Description

This position is primarily for an EMT Adjunct Instructor. The individual may teach at or below the level of the holder's certificates to practice.

Under the direction of the EMS Program Coordinator, the EMS Adjunct Instructor is responsible for preparing and delivering didactic and laboratory education that parallels the National Standards and the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) curriculum. The EMS Adjunct Instructor will be required to deliver ODPS curriculum, instruct and supervise students, evaluate students, and prepare reports, and maintain student records. The position utilizes and maintains EMS equipment and supplies. The individual will coordinate with the EMS Program Coordinator and the EMS Clinical Coordinator to assist with clinical and infield direction to the students with advising as needed. This position also instructs College Credit Plus students. The EMS Adjunct Instructor is expected to continue to evaluate and upgrade EMS teaching programs to meet the needs and responsibilities for an ever changing, diverse career path.

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge to the ODPS certification level of the cardholder.
  • Supervise, provide instruction, and evaluate students enrolled in EMS courses. May also provide instruction as needed for other EMS certification curricula including Paramedic, AEMT, EMT, First Responder, and refresher courses.
  • Prepare reports as required by the Department Chair and EMS Program Coordinator.
  • Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate.
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.
  • Prepare for class by reviewing topic material in the current textbook used by the program, incorporating ODPS curriculum objectives into lesson plans.
  • Interact with the appropriate college personnel to accomplish the department's goals and objectives.
  • Promote the college's EMS program, associate degree and other relevant training programs.
  • Facilitate discussion in lab and practical training sessions.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
  • Solicit feedback from students through instructor evaluations.
  • Maintain appropriate student files.
  • Report student progress to the EMS Program Coordinator and Department Chair.
  • With the Department Chair and the EMS Program Coordinator and other instructors, review, revise, and update program policies and procedures as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications for EMS training and must adhere to all rules, policies and procedures of Stark State College and ODPS.
  • Oversee labs and assist with lab instruction and testing as needed.
  • Fulfill duties as required of Stark Stage College faculty.
  • Assist the Department Chair and EMS Program Coordinator to maintain accreditations and ODPS Charter.
  • Assist the Department Chair and EMS Program Coordinator with other duties as assigned.

  • Ohio Department of Public Safety EMT Certification
  • Current Ohio Department of Public Safety EMS Instructor Certification (assistant instructor does not meet this requirement)
  • Must maintain currency of required certifications
  • Associate's degree in a related field from a nationally recognized accrediting institution.
  • Current valid Ohio driver's license

Ability to coach, mentor, and guide students toward their goals. Must be available days, evenings, and weekends to implement requirements of classes and training as necessary. Ability to learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate.
