Application Development Engineer - Ceramics, Powders & Shapes

The Application Development Engineer - Ceramics, Powders and Shapes is responsible for application data generation, product design, manufacturing technical support, and market development to grow Momentive Technologies' fillers for thermal management and lubrication. Thermal management is paramount to power electronics, electric vehicles and batteries to improve performance and lifetime.

Responsibilities:

  • Application Development Engineer will work with the commercial, technology, and operations teams to support customer development activities. Specifically, the engineer will design and execute application testing to showcase BN capability for thermal management, electrical insulation, and lubrication.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, external collaborators, and validation partners to generate application data and bring solutions to customers.
  • Become subject matter expert on BN properties and applications. Support the commercial team to develop the sales pipeline by reviewing customer requirements, conducting product presentations, and evaluating market trends.
  • Understand customers' testing requirements to develop test capabilities and generate application data.
  • Facilitate production of newly designed products with the operations team, defining process requirements, training operators, identifying supply chain requirements, and writing necessary documentation.
  • Support quoting process by evaluating feasibility based on capability and defining materials, machine, and operations requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, material science or chemistry with 3+ years of experience product or process development.
  • Proficient in analytical skills including SEM, EDS, TGA, PSD, rheometer, thermal conductivity measurements.
  • Ability to complete hands-on work in a laboratory and industrial environment with necessary PPE.
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks based on timeline and corporate goals.
  • Ability to communicate with customers clearly and independently on development projects.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in data collection and statistical analysis, including software such as Minitab.
  • Knowledge of surface chemistry, powder processing, polymer science, thermal/mechanical characterizations, plasma treatment, polymer compounding, and solid phase synthesis.

Travel Requirements:

  • 5-10% Travel
