The Environmental Test Engineer supports Engineering & Test Operations with the planning, execution, and documentation of environmental tests. Assignments may include writing test procedures, holding test readiness reviews, preparation of test articles, overseeing completion of tests, documenting test results, and writing similarity reports. There is a variety of desk and lab work, along with testing that ranges from environmental tests on small equipment to full-scale tests of an aircraft wheel and brake on a flywheel dynamometer.


Core Job Responsibilities:
The Test Engineering & Operations department provides the last phase of the development of a product by conducting qualification tests to determine whether equipment meets the rigors of the customer's requirements. The Test Engineer I is responsible for all aspects of qualification, development, product support and research and technology testing of Parker Meggitt's Braking Systems Division products including, but not limited to, wheels, brakes, and wheel-mounted equipment (WME). Testing of products includes the preparation of detailed test plans, test procedures and test reports consistent with customer and government requirements. As well, the test engineer is responsible for the design and shop support of necessary axles and test fixtures according to Parker Meggitt's test lab practices and standards. The Test Engineer I will prepare detailed test instructions consistent with requirements and follow/direct all aspects of those tests as required, ensuring compliance with requirements. The Test Engineer I will be required to act as a representative of the test department and provide assistance to the Product Development Team, Program Management, Design Engineering, Research and Technology, Product Support, Customers, Suppliers, Marketing and Procurement personnel as required.

The Test Engineer I will be involved in many of the following activities:

o Creation of test outlines and procedures. These efforts take the customer's requirements and translate them into actionable tests with parameters based on various customer and regulatory documents.
o Identifying how many test articles are needed and the sequencing of tests.
o Liaison with external facilities to arrange testing by external test facilities when necessary, and organize delivery of all required equipment to the facility and the delivery of the test report from the external facility (when necessary)
o Converting the test procedures into step-by-step test instructions for the operators performing the tests.
o Ensure that testing is conducted according to written and verbal instruction.
o Monitoring test progress and documenting results.
o Data reduction and incorporation into test reports.
o Work with the lead engineer to create FRACAs (Failure Report and Corrective Action) if there is a test that doesn't meet requirements.
o Creation of posttest reports and similarity reports to document that all requirements are addressed.
o Continuous Improvement activities to enhance the safety and efficiency of tests and processes.

Job Requirements:
o Bachelor degree (or beyond) in engineering technology, aerospace, electrical, or mechanical engineering plus 0-2 years of relevant experience.
o Ability to work on-site 100% of the time with the possibility of occasional travel for offsite testing.
o Ability to lift 20 pounds.
o Ability to research and analyze data effectively.
o Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, to meet deadlines.
o Ability to learn related technologies such as LabView, NI DAQ, other Digital or Analog DAS, thermal chambers, altitude chambers, vibration, etc.
o Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
* Preferred Skills / Qualifications / Attributes:
o High level of mechanical aptitude and problem solving
o Willingness to get dirty. In Test Engineering & Operations, we intentionally push test articles to failure, and that can mean mess. This position is NOT for someone who just likes sitting at a desk.
o Ability to communicate effectively.
o Excellent written communication skills.
o Ability to understand and/or assemble complicated hardware according to precise drawings and instructions.
o Ability to operate workshop equipment and tools such as torque wrenches, micrometers, vernier calipers etc.
o Ability to interpret test data.
o Attention to detail and accuracy.
o Self - motivated, enthusiastic, and professional
o Makes health & safety a priority and helps maintain 6S and HSE standards.
o Practical Skills - Takes good care of equipment and tools.
o Problem Solving Rudimentary skills to troubleshoot rigs and implement fixes.
