Overview

Lead the State and Local tax (SALT) function of a multinational insurance holding company. This role is primarily responsible for conducting tax research, planning, and compliance. You'll focus on issues related to income and franchise tax, personal property and real estate, credits and incentives, and indirect tax.

You'll help with assessing our state and local tax burden and recommend solutions that support AmTrust's overall business objectives to establish filling positions consistent with good business practices and with the states applicable tax laws and rules.

The AmTrust Tax Department has a hybrid work policy - the employees are required to work from our Downtown Cleveland office Tuesday through Thursday but can work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. A conscientious self-starter with strong communication skills is required.

Responsibilities
    Primarily responsible for all SALT filings; also assists in preparation of (state income, franchise, personal property, annual reports, sales and use tax, tax clearance certificates, tax audits
  • Responsible for tax research and planning.
  • Responsible for preparation of state corporate tax returns and supporting workpapers.
  • Responsible for researching and responding to federal and state tax notices.
  • Reconcile and prepare analysis on general ledger tax accounts.
  • Responsible for coordination and assistance of state tax examinations by various tax authorities.
  • Maintain and utilize state income tax software system for AmTrust's companies.
  • Assist in maintaining tax compliance calendar and audit schedules, updating as needed.
  • Maintain relationships with various taxing authorities regarding state income tax issues.
  • Responsible for coordination and assistance of state examinations by various tax authorities.
  • Responsible for sales tax transactions for purchases of Fixed Assets, Market Data, and Software, etc. using the Vertex Sales and Use Tax automation system to determine the taxability of each item.
  • Assist in technical tax-related issues involving other essential departments within the AmTrust organization.
  • Supervision of staff tax accountants

Supplemental Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist on any special projects requested by the Vice-President or Director of Corporate Tax.
Qualifications
  • Experience with OneSource Income Tax or similar tax preparation software.
  • Organized individual with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to complete thorough workpapers supporting various tax returns.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or Masters of Tax and/or CPA
  • 3-7 years of Supervisor or Manager SALT related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) as well as basic knowledge of operating systems
