Job Description

As the PKAF CI (PPG Kansai Automotive Finishes Continuous Improvement) Chemist, you will be responsible for leading continuous improvement of product and process for Automotive OEM customers. You will work onsite in Cleveland, OH and report to a Technical Manager.

Main Responsibilities:

Work with global PKAF teams and manage Know How transfer from Japan, PKAF technology cost and complexity improvement projects

  • Utilize project management skills, process technology, knowledge of manufacturing, business, and internal/external resources to independently plan and direct all aspects of their project area. Initiate and foster scientific exchange with technical associates both within and outside technical areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate commitment to goals through words and actions. Demonstrate adaptability and drive positive change. Foster a culture of innovation.
  • Application of root cause analysis and BPI tools to lead resolution of technical, manufacturing and field issues

Lead and manage formula optimization and raw material initiative projects

  • Existing technical knowledge has been clearly augmented with knowledge of manufacturing, business, and internal/external customers.
  • Ability to ideate, develop and execute projects using a high degree of technical competence.
  • Seek new projects and not avoid complex assignments. Concisely describe action plans to appropriate parties.

Manage project resource and timeline of multiple customer teams

  • Impact technical direction on projects outside areas or responsibility.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead more than one technology area. Communicate at all levels, motivate peers and associates in cooperative efforts. Ability to make difficult decisions.
  • Ability to earn support of associates in a variety of situations and environments (e.g. teams, internal/external customer interactions and or supervisory interactions)

This is a new organization structure and you will have a critical role in leading change and driving accountability in this new structure. Strong experience with IT tools (Oracle, RMIR/MOC, LFA, INDX/NPD/OPLA/RMT, Teams/SharePoint) and willingness to develop and support standard process will be critical for success.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Science Degree in Chemistry or related Engineering or Science field with 3+ years of industry experience
  • Project management experience and ability to support multiple projects
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Japanese language skills preferred
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%
