Job Description

The instructor is responsible for lesson planning and interdisciplinary instruction for high school students in the following areas: Mathematics(Algebra I/II/Pre-Calculus and Geometry), Anatomy/Physiology, Biology, Environmental/Physical Science, Chemistry, Biology, Language Arts, Spanish and Technology.

The instructor will integrate the use of technology into classroom assignments and projects to increase student's proficiency and interest in technology tools useful for learning. Instructor will be available for e-mail and in-person consultation, advising and guidance of students both in the selected subject area and for general college preparation. In cooperation with the program director and academic coordinator, the instructor will work in a team environment with other instructors to create an integrated, project-based curriculum. The instructor is expected to participate in the overall academic and personal growth and development of participants. Enforce program policies and procedures and practice laboratory safety at all times.

The instructor will assist with the identification of students with learning disabilities or
exceptional academic talent.

Duties include creating a course syllabus, choosing readings, creating assignment
packets, administering and grading assignments, projects, exams, and tutoring students
during study sessions. Also, ensuring quality and effectiveness of summer academic
support.
Other duties will include attending weekly staff meetings, preparing students for and
participating in the closing research symposium, academic evaluation of students, grade
reporting, participating in academic achievement incentives and recognition programs.

Other duties as assigned.

Education: Requires a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in related disciplines identified in the position description.

Experience/Qualifications Requirements:
Teaching experience or extensive work in the application of a discipline required. Must be able to work with staff and advise/teach/tutor students from diverse backgrounds; must be sensitive to student needs. Proven ability to conceptualize and execute hands-on, project and group-based curriculum and effectively integrate current technology. Must be able to effectively implement classroom management strategies.

This position requires a high level of flexibility and commitment to first generation, under resourced,college-bound students. FBI and BCI background check will be required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer previous teaching, training or tutoring high school students experience to be in an urban K-12 or college setting. Prefer candidates with a working knowledge and/or experience in college planning/advising; delivering workshops on various aspects of the college planning process. Prefer previous experience working with federal TRIO programs, similar summer institutes, or pre-college programs. Prefer experience with laboratory research, creativity and the ability to engage high school learners. Experience with project-based learning is a plus, but not required.

Prefer candidates who have overcome similar barriers and challenges as program participants.
