Job Description

The IT E-Business Center of Excellence is seeking a self-motivated Lead Amazon Web Services Cloud Engineer to support the needs of multiple development teams operating in a diverse technology environment. The Lead Amazon Web Services Cloud Engineer manages processes and technologies that enable business value by delivering high quality software at speed and scale. The role focuses on standardized architectures and platforms that are built and managed via automation. The incumbent is responsible for the leading the design, documentation, configuration, support, and enablement of cloud native solutions in a global ecommerce environment.

A successful candidate will be a member of a cross functional team comprised of well-rounded engineers who can work across multiple functional domains in support of projects and end-to-end delivery of software through automation. Strategy & Planning
  • Own, architect, provide technical oversight, and mentor technical teams to deliver resilient and scalable cloud solutions and infrastructure.
  • Develop cloud adoption plans, infrastructure, governance, and deployment standards.
  • Own the automation of cloud architecture, including planning and road mapping activities
  • Perform hands-on solution design, solution architectures, architecture roadmaps, prototyping, proof-of-concepts, and IaC tasks in support of current and future projects
  • Strong professional experience leading teams within a CI/CD environment, supported by Agile methodologies, automated testing, and deployment
  • Strong experience supporting the Amazon Web Services stack (PaaS and IaaS) with hands on experience working with Kubernetes and container orchestration
  • Collaborate with other engineers and business stakeholders to define and align solutions, standards, and best practices across teams and projects.
Acquisition & Deployment
  • Define and implement the most effective and cost-efficient cloud solutions
  • Support management in ensuring the quality of new applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing applications
  • Implement software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Assess, design, and implement innovative technologies and processes to continuously improve platform and team delivery capabilities
  • Collaborate with analysts, designers, and product owners in the testing of software programs and applications
  • Manage and support cloud workload lifecycle management.
  • Plan and perform upgrade/migration of technology versions
  • Define, plan, and implement security measures to safeguard information against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.
Operational Management
  • Lead the design and implementation of secure cloud and infrastructure solutions following defined standards, best practices, and the "Amazon Web Services Well-Architected Framework."
  • Define and implement standards to monitor efficient resource use of cloud workloads and collaborate with engineering teams to design potential solutions that increase resource efficiency
  • Take part in every stage of the software development life cycle for cloud solutions, such as planning, defining requirements, implementing, and testing.
  • Lead the resolution of incidents, identify root cause, and document problems, and implement preventive measures
  • Employ leadership and outstanding problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business efficiency
  • Develop complex infrastructure and application automation as part of the software development lifecycle, and perform automated controlled deployments of cloud infrastructure
  • Develop and document technical designs and configurations for integration and implementation of cloud applications and systems
  • Ensure technical tools meet development process needs, including integration and deployment pipelines
  • Plan and complete projects based on high-level requirements with minimal or no guidance.
  • Perform activities in support of a 24x7 global support model for production environments.
Incidental Functions
  • Monitor services, containers, applications, integrations, and websites.
  • Lead disaster planning/mitigation/recovery implementation.
  • Assist with various projects as may be required to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the work.
  • Participate in hiring activities, fulfilling affirmative action obligations, and ensuring compliance with the equal employment opportunity policy.
  • Coordinate and attend meetings with software developers and business users on behalf of the team.
  • Minimal travel, up to 5% may be required.
  • Work outside the standard office 7.5-hour workday may be required.
Formal Education & Certification
  1. Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology field of study (e.g., Information Technology, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Systems Management, Mathematics) or equivalent experience.
Knowledge & Experience
  • 8+ years of IT experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on Amazon Web Services cloud engineering and administration experience
  • Strong experience supporting the Amazon Web Services stack - VPCs, EC2, S3, EKS, Availability Zones, Security Groups, ELB/ALB, Control Tower, CloudFront, Lambda, IAM and similar technologies.
  • 3+ years hands on experience working with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
  • 3+ years' experience with automation and deployment tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Argo CD)
  • Understand concepts of security related tooling and scanning (Web App Firewall, SAST, DAST).
  • Knowledge of Apache based Webserver, or Nginx.
  • Experience supporting Linux or *nix operating systems.
  • Ability to break down work in manageable pieces to delegate to junior team members.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Amazon Web Services cloud experience
  • Strong understanding of cloud and infrastructure components (compute, storage, network, data, and applications) to deliver end-to-end cloud Infrastructure architectures, designs & recommendations
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code approaches to infrastructure management
  • Skilled in infrastructure-as-code languages such as CloudFormation or Terraform
  • Skilled in task automation via scripting.
  • Strong understanding of container security, management, deployment, and orchestration in Amazon Web Services
  • Experience managing and supporting Microservices designs and patterns
  • Ability to drive innovation and work as an individual contributor in a fast-paced environment
  • Application Performance Management (Dynatrace or similar).
  • Knowledge of LDAP concepts and experience working with a LDAP Directory.
  • Experience with Agile development and release practices.
  • Take an active role in continuous improvement of software development tools, methodologies, and policies.
