The Buyer report to the Purchasing Supervisor and is responsible for proactively managing supplier orders and on-time delivery to ensure the plant is supplied with the right inventory levels of raw materials at requested intervals to support the organization's production plans. This is achieved through effective management of business processes with discipline, speed, execution, and accountability to continually improve the material requirements planning process.

This position will work in harmony with the plant scheduler to ensure constant and consistent material flow through the manufacturing process.The Buyer will proactively analyze and recommend inventory replenishment strategies based on our SIOP process, inventory policies, and safety stock strategies based on market demands and business goals. This position incorporates global commodity strategies developed by the Strategic Sourcing Manager(s) in charge of the various commodities that support the plant. That includes vendor/product mix to support the strategy and coordination of potential pre-buys or stock builds dependent on the current supply situation for a specific raw material.

The Buyer will be responsible for strategic sourcing for all items purchased that are not controlled by a strategic sourcing manager. Sourcing responsibilities include assurance of supply, superior cost management and uncompromising stewardship in support of our internal & external customers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Utilize MRP to manage inventory levels of raw materials and packaging consistent with sourcing and operational guidelines and to support business needs that facilitate the drive to 100% SIFOT performance.

  • Collaborate with the plant scheduler and make decisions to determine the appropriate balance of raw materials considering shelf-life, contracts, inventory targets, warehouse/carrier costs, and other vendor requirements.

  • Interpret historical data and outlook/future forecasts to adapt to changing vendor lead-times to assure no supply interruptions.

  • Collaborate with the receiving clerk on timely and accurate receipt of material both direct, indirect and warehouse transfers.

  • Collaborate with the inventory analyst on cycle count adjustment that impact replenishment timing.

  • Manage delivery of bulk raw material tanks into the plant to ensure timely deliveries and coordination with the manufacturing team for efficient unloading.

  • Create purchase orders (POs) in alignment with system parameters and result of analysis, create POs in Adage (direct and indirect spend) and Ariba for some indirect spend.

  • Create warehouse transfers for products from other H.B. Fuller facilities.

  • Maintain accurate inbound delivery dates in Adage to ensure production schedule can best be managed around possible late deliveries by suppliers and escalate where necessary.

  • File QNs (Quality Notifications) for raw materials not meeting requirements set forth by H.B. Fuller

  • Ensure timely resolution of invoice discrepancies to enable prompt payment to our supplier base.

  • Proactively follow-up with supplier on upcoming deliveries rather than reactively responding after delivery failure

  • Develop and manage reports on vendor on-time delivery performance.

  • Take a lead role in using the Adage system in support of planning activities.

  • Ensure Inventory Turns/Cover achieves the target defined by the Director of Supply Chain and Plant Manager

  • Early identification and escalation of issues when a shift in the raw material demand occurs in raising the issue and provide recommendations to S&OP to adjust MRP data in alignment with business demands

  • Manage the overview of incoming purchase orders via review of exception messages within Adage and close cooperation with suppliers and, where appropriate, escalate to sourcing, supplier, scheduler, and production manager

  • Play a proactive role in escalating inventory count discrepancies to ensure maximum effectiveness of managing raw materials through Adage.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, Associates Degree, OR High School Diploma with 5+ years of experience in a similar manufacturing position.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, and math skills.

  • Strong desire and capability to learn.

  • Responsive to change and individually accountable for results.

  • Possess a collaborative approach with stakeholders focusing on the team's success

  • Ability to continually look for improved methods in accomplishing tasks.

  • Ability to travel up to 5%.

Preferred Requirements

  • APICS CPIM certification

  • SAP, Adage, and Asics ERP experience

  • Microsoft Excel and Word applications

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $61,000 - $80,000.
