Overview

Tax Analyst II

The Tax Analyst II is primarily responsible for supporting the Federal and State and Local Tax Managers in the preparation and review of tax filings, research, and planning required of a multinational insurance and insurance agency holding company. This position will also work on Partnership tax matters, as requested, and required. The AmTrust Tax Department has a hybrid work policy - the employees are required to work from our Downtown Cleveland office Tuesday through Thursday but can work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. A conscientious self-starter with strong communication skills is required.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

    Responsible for the preparation of corporate non-insurance tax returns and supporting workpapers (federal non-insurance income tax returns and state and local non-insurance income tax returns)
  • Responsible for qualifying returns and resolving diagnostic issues that would prevent electronic filing of federal and state income tax
  • Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual income tax provision for non-insurance subsidiaries in accordance with ASC 740 (formerly Statement 109: Accounting for Income Taxes)
  • Draft responses to federal and state tax notices, assessments, queries, audits, and examinations
  • Manage and update a large tax compliance calendar and audit schedules, preparing estimate

payments, extension requests, annual reports, and other various filings

  • Utilize technology to research tax laws, regulations, and instructions to properly report to tax

authorities and assist in possible planning opportunities

  • Build and maintain technical expertise related to federal, partnership, state and local tax laws

and regulations

  • Compile information for and prepare various indirect tax filings, including sales and use, property, franchise, and other various indirect filings
  • Work with Procurement and Accounts Receivable to determine the taxability of certain purchases, using the Vertex Sales and Use Tax automation system

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Experience with OneSource Income Tax or similar tax preparation software
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Organized individual with an attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to complete thorough and detailed workpapers supporting various tax returns
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Advanced training indicated by CPA designation or Masters of Tax preferred but not required
  • 2 to 4 years of tax experience in public accounting or in industry or an equivalent combination of experience is necessary
