The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Sciences at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a faculty position in Music Education and Director of Choral Activities at the Instructor level.

Duties include conducting the Case Concert Choir and an additional ensemble as well as teaching courses in vocal/choral music education methods and choral directing at the undergraduate and possibly the graduate level. The teaching load is 5 courses/year (2 one semester, 3 one semester). In addition to the teaching responsibilities, there is a substantial department service role that includes managing ensembles, mentoring choral music education students (including student teacher supervision), recruiting for the choral and the music education programs, and interfacing with local schools through guest clinics, observations, and the like.

The successful candidate for this position will add to a vibrant team of music scholars, artists, and educators. CWRU and The Cleveland Institute of Music cooperate in a Joint Music Program, providing students with the advantages of both a conservatory and a major research university. The two institutions share a campus setting in University Circle, together with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Music Settlement, and over twenty other cultural organizations.

Applicants must have at minimum ABD status in a doctoral program in Music Education, demonstrated experience in choral conducting, a minimum of three years documented successful public school teaching experience, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. Preferred qualifications include: a background in vocal pedagogy; college teaching experience; and receipt of doctorate by the date of appointment.
