Company Overview
Today, GKN Sinter Metals is the world's leading producer of powder metal (P/M) components. Its road to becoming number one was paved, initially, by the aggressive acquisition strategy of Cleveland, OH-based Sinter Metals, Inc., dating from the 1991 acquisition of Pennsylvania Pressed Metals through the 1996 acquisition of Krebsöge Sinterholding GmbH and Powder Metal Holding, Inc.

The years in between saw growth by acquisition. New technologies -- aluminum P/M via American Powder Metals and stainless steel P/M via Midwest Sintered Products; new product lines -- truck parts via SinterForm and powder-forged connecting rods and transmission races via Powder Metal Forge Unit, and new geographic markets -- European markets via Sinterteknik in Sweden and Krebsöge in Germany, were all folded into the company.

In December 1997, Sinter Metals, Inc. "grew" further when it became part of GKN plc which, in effect, added to this industry leader four P/M manufacturing locations of GKN Bound Brook and additional facilities -- by means of joint ventures -- in Asia.

The following year, GKN Sinter Metals moved its global headquarters from Cleveland to Auburn Hills, in the heart of the auto industry in the metropolitan Detroit region.

Leading the consolidation of the powder metals industry, GKN Sinter Metals has made 14 acquisitions since 1998 and is now the undisputed market leader in an industry which, historically, has been highly fragmented.

Having created a global company with a global management team and work force, the company is now concentrating on becoming a truly customer-focused organization; further developing its technological and innovation leadership position within the P/M industry, and refining its capabilities as a full-service supplier to its expanding base of customers.

At GKN Sinter Metals, the goal is not simply to be the largest P/M parts manufacturer ... it's to be the best.

The company's integrated team of Sales, Technology, and Manufacturing professionals work with customers -- from small, local companies whose needs cover a range of general industry applications ... to large, global automotive customers having very specific and demanding application requirements -- to provide personal service and optimal support.

Because of the company's customer-focused approach, GKN Sinter Metals strives to attract the best people and to create an environment where they can flourish in their careers.

The P/M industry's finest talent staffs the company's Technical Centers and plant-based engineering teams, keeping GKN Sinter Metals at the forefront of innovations and major P/M breakthroughs.

Today, the company's people are developing the innovations of tomorrow -- from new, high-density compaction processes to improved best-in-class powder forging capabilities. "It is our people who make the difference."

If you have a professional background in sales & marketing, manufacturing or technology ... or have experience in corporate finance, human resources, or business systems, the powder metals (P/M) industry may provide you with a great opportunity!

A global auto industry, incorporating more and more P/M parts into its engine, transmission, steering, brake, suspension, and other body & chassis platforms, is placing new demands on its suppliers -- demands that require innovative technological solutions for higher quality components and systems ... delivered anywhere in the world ... and at a lower cost.

At the same time, design engineers across a range of industries are just now recognizing the performance and cost benefits of using P/M-related processing technologies. Growth in these non-automotive market segments are creating new and exciting challenges for plant managers; for application engineers and sales professionals, as well as for skilled positions such as die setters and machinists.

To take full advantage of this dynamic business environment, a company needs to make a long-term financial commitment ... a company needs to invest heavily in equipment and R&D ... most importantly, a company needs to have a dedicated and committed group of professionals who thrive on challenge, strive for excellence, and are willing to reap the financial rewards of success.

Here at GKN Sinter Metals, we're not providing jobs -- we're offering career opportunities.

The world's largest manufacturer of P/M components, with over 7,500 employees in 40 locations spanning 13 countries on five continents, we're also a company that has an excellent track record of local community involvement.

Our Human Resources Group is always interested in receiving resumes from individuals who have the potential to contribute to a dynamic company culture. We look forward to hearing from you.
