Role Objective

The Plastics Process Engineer is a "hands-on" position that plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing equipment and processes to produce high quality precision injection and blow molded product. The Plastics Process Engineer is responsible for coordinating the molding efforts on new program launches, setting up and/or revising manufacturing processes and assisting the manufacturing operations in problem solving and continuous process improvements. While monitoring the effectiveness of processes, this individual quantifies results, documents and presents findings to cross functional teams. This position also mentors and provides training to other molding personnel. Recommends and implements changes in process or work instructions to continually improve production performance. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures and good manufacturing practices.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Develops new processes, assesses and documents new and existing processes. Implements and evaluates changes to existing processes designed to improve product quality, productivity and overall equipment efficiency.
  • Follows specifications and blueprints; utilizes precision measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex injection or blow molding problems and issues.
  • Provides technical leadership and mentorship to process technicians, operators and other molding personnel.
  • Develops and maintains process documentation ensuring that processes and procedures are clearly stated and understandable for all employees.
  • Provides technical support/solutions to manufacturing processes, improves yield and throughput, drives cost reduction activities and improvements on part quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to start-up, operate and shut down process related equipment. Must be able to work independently on new process developments as well as troubleshooting current production issues.
  • Works with equipment and material vendors to resolve machine and material issues.
  • Monitors and reports issues with injection/blow molds, makes recommendations for refurbishment/repairs based on production factors such as cycles, process capability and tooling history.
  • Interacts with internal customers to resolve issues and provides new project updates.
  • Implements technical solutions including statistical methodology to meet company cost, quality, and delivery expectations.
  • Facilitates and supports facility and manufacturing safety, environmental, and ergonomic efforts.
  • Champions root cause analysis activities on molded components.
Education and Experience
  • Engineering degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of six (6) years progressive experience within plastics manufacturing/manufacturing engineering technology.
  • Strong and diverse technical background in injection molding, tooling, equipment, materials manufacturing and quality.
  • Prior experience with injection stretch blow molding preferred.
  • Self-starter. Must be able to work with little direction and with a high level of self-motivation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated superior communication (written and verbal), teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to think out of the box and drive solutions.
  • Ability to lead others, responsibility may include indirect supervision of process technicians.
Supervision/Coordination
  • Guidance and supervision is provided by the Production Manager.
  • May assist in the training of other technical resources; may coordinate with vendors on equipment and services.
  • Coordinates project work with other technical resources and departments
Role Type
Mostly On-Site - 80%+ on-site work
Travel Requirements
Overnight Travel - sporadic - required.
